SMOKE ON THE WATER — and on the trails
16KM, 900M+
In Montreux, music isn’t only heard in concert halls. It echoes through the streets, along the lakeside, across the mountains overlooking Lake Geneva and, for one special night, all along what is probably the most rock’n’roll trail run in Switzerland — and beyond.
Starting at the Freddie Mercury statue, Freddie’s Night invites you to experience a unique evening where trails replace stages and headlamps take over from spotlights. As night falls, you’ll leave the lakeside and climb toward the Côte de Pallens and the village of Sonzier. An ideal ascent to admire the Riviera lights… or to wonder why you signed up when a lakeside terrace seemed like an excellent alternative.
But don’t let the festive atmosphere fool you. With 16 kilometres and 900 metres of elevation gain, the course has enough character to remind you that the mountain is the real headliner of the night. And unlike concerts, there’s no intermission here.
Along the way, musical performances and animations will accompany your progress. Some songs might give you wings. Others may briefly make you forget that your legs have been negotiating with your brain for several kilometres already.
Whether you’re here to discover trail running, enjoy an evening with friends, or simply check whether it’s truly possible to sing Queen while climbing, Freddie’s Night is above all a celebration of the joy of running.
And if you enjoy standing out, dare to dress up. Moustaches, glitter jackets, outrageous sunglasses or more‑or‑less faithful Freddie Mercury tributes are all welcome. The more questionable your outfit looks at the start, the more perfectly it will fit the spirit of the race.
After one last descent toward Montreux, you’ll reach the Market Square in an atmosphere that feels more like the end of a concert than a trail finish. Some will cross the line running, others singing, and a few solemnly promising never to sign up again… until next time.
UNDER PRESSURE One mission: reach the finish before your headlamp battery gives up.
WE WILL ROCK YOU Challenge
For those who want to double the fun, the “WE WILL ROCK YOU” Challenge consists of running Freddie’s Night right after Freddie’s Day in the morning. A brilliant idea… usually validated at registration and slightly less popular the next morning.
