SALT MINES, LEGENDARY LAKES AND ALPINE RIDGES
66KM AND 4’200M+
The new Route 66! Though this one will be far less flat—and the engines probably a lot quieter.
Starting with an original departure from Bex, the course first winds through the vineyards of Bex, which rival the finest nectars. Then come the famous Salt Mines, which some runners may have had the chance to visit the day before. The mountains begin just after… with a gentle climb of 1,200 meters of elevation gain leading to Bretaye and its lakes, including the stunning Lac des Chavonnes—where the route intersects with Crossing Switzerland and the MXTREME—before descending toward the charming village of La Forclaz and reaching the aid station at Le Sépey.
In Leysin, the route sticks to the lower slopes (skipping the grueling climb to La Berneuse), heading first to Prafandaz, followed by a descent to the checkpoint at Luan. From there, the Col des Nombrieux leads to the Malatraix ridgeline, offering an unmatched panorama over Lake Geneva.
Before tasting the joy of the finish line, runners will tackle the climb toward the Rochers de Naye and a 1,600-meter descent through the wild Chauderon Gorge—an experience that will leave no one unmoved. Just a few final steps through Montreux’s old town and along its lakeside promenade, and you’ll arrive at the historic finish site of the Montreux Trail Festival: the Market Square and the statue of Freddie Mercury.
The Route 66 of the Montreux Trail Festival? The perfect preparation for your late-summer goal.
