12 km to discover trail running. 650 m D+ to understand what it really means
12KM, 650M+
For its 10th anniversary, the Montreux Trail Festival promised a few surprises. Here’s one more. After all, not everyone enjoys the idea of running at night dressed like a walking headlamp. Freddie’s Night deserved a daytime counterpart. Not too early though — we’re not monsters.
With its 12 kilometres, this new course could almost pass for a gentle stroll. Almost. Because with nearly 650 metres of elevation gain, you’ll quickly discover that the organisers have a very personal definition of the word “accessible.”
This race is for everyone: those who want to discover trail running, those looking for a credible excuse to wear shoes with big lugs, those still feeling guilty about last night’s dinner, or simply those who want to avoid the traditional traffic jams of the last July weekend. As the road authorities would tell you : better to run than honk.
On the programme: the beautiful forests of Valmont, the alpine pastures of Glion, and their breathtaking views over Lake Geneva. Perfect for taking a few photos, catching your breath discreetly, and convincing your friends that you’re fully in control.
And because a Montreux Trail Festival course without the Gorges du Chauderon would be like Freddie Mercury without his moustache, the final stretch leads you through this iconic passage before reaching the finish.
Whether you’re a beginner, a holidaymaker passing through, or simply curious, this new format proves that at the Montreux Trail Festival, even the “small” races have serious character.
WE WILL ROCK YOU Between rocks, roots, climbs and descents, chances are the mountain will take care of that personally.
WE WILL ROCK YOU Challenge
For those who want to double the fun, the “WE WILL ROCK YOU” Challenge consists of running Freddie’s Night right after this new morning race. A brilliant idea… usually validated at registration and slightly less popular the next morning.
